Fire... In office, In Kichen!

Well on Tuesday, there was a fire drill organized in my office.

QUESTION: What the heck this blah blah drill is dude!

ANSWER: u sala tuchha Indian log! Fire drill is like giving us training that what are we suppose to do in case of fire.

Okies! Go ahead dude!

And one of the obvious steps was to step down 34 floors by foot!!! And believe me stepping down 34 floor is not a joke, though my manager tries to utilize that time by trying to do some meeting sort of stuff! But hey, it was firet time. And entire building was stepping down so his idea was not a success.

Coming out of building in open was a pain too since it was somewhat 5-8 Celsius temperature only out side and wind was like any thing. We have to gather at pre-defined place and were required to report to our CIB coordinator. All in all, it was fun cause it gave us some funny exercise.

In the evening, as I m playing in kitchen arena now a days like sachin tendulkar (take it as phrase please), my inner chef (FYI: he'll die just on the moment when I'll board for plane to India) said – "C'mon dude! Its time to some aloo ki sabji" and me and my assistant, tirath cooked some awesome aloo ki sabji with minimal resources.

Here is the credit list for my cooking abilities.

Preaching... can skip if u r in good mood!

Well on Saturday we went to akihabara, electronic gadget's Mecca in Japan. Luckily that is not too far from our hotel, for sure, its like a boon for me ;) we were hunting for some (very) cheap second hand laptop for tirath, that poor guy s fed up by seeing Japanese channel in his (much available) leisure time ;) and yeah we went to ambika store to get some Indian kitchen related goodies. Check few picks of akihabara

But main attraction of the day wasn't concerned with this incidence. I saw a very good example that how much Japanese guys care! When we were returning back we saw two guys on wheel chair. And at the time they have to leave the train, an attendant, dressed in metro uniform, was already standing on their coach's gate! He put a supporting platform to help them to get off the coach smoothly! And his job wasn't over he went with both of those wheel chaired people. Though one of them (may be for both of them, not so sure) was having personal attendant.

I was not getting that how come that metro guy come to know about wheel chair. But when we get off at our station I saw one more guy on wheel chair but he was getting in to the coach. Same supporting platform were provided him by metro attendant! I noticed that after seeing him off, he immediately talked on his mobile phone, I guess he was forwarding message to guys on next station about that wheel chare guy!

Here is something for us, mera bharat mahan believers! Can we see such behavior in our country? Before you start to curse our government and system, ask yourself, will YOU stop for a wheel chaired or old or disabled guy? Can a wheel chaired/disabled guy travel on his own in our country? Will you really leave your seat for such people? May be you guys are good but I can't answer these questions without if and but.

On government part, our government provides facility in DTC busses that such guy can travel! Metros are better in this regard though. Hey all those human rights guys, have you ever thought about it? Mr Narsimha rao, who sent food to militants on humanity basis, did he ever care for such people? I guess these are not humans for our government!

Here in Japan, where ever is automated system, they have a provision for disabled people, either it is lift, vending machine, ticket machines or whatever…

It is the one of the basic lesson of good citizenship and I am very sorry to say, most of us are lacking this very basic chapter, and if we don't know the basics then… sounds like preaching? Let me stop here only but from last 2-3 yrs, I have stopped throwing garbage on road and onwards, I'll always care for disabled people!

Some bathtub story...

So I got a angrejon ka shauk. Whats about sitting in bath tub with a can of drink… Voila! sounds interesting?? I did it…! Yeah it was awesome to spend time in hot water with chill can. I was like this for almost 40 minutes dudes! Try it, its awesome ;)

Views from office...!

So I brought my digi cam to office today to get some good pics, you can see them by clicking the image. Well, I would like you to introduce you with Triton square – basically it is the name of the building complex where my office is. It consists of 4 buildings named as W, X, Y, Z. All of them are 40 floors+ building and I m used to sit at X building's 34th floor.

Its just on river side so from various angles you can see some amazing views, I wish I'll become good photographer with this cam so that you guys can feel the feel their! Upti that time, please bear these pics ;)

Ayi ayi, digi cam ki bahar...

Yup folks… I gotta digicam. Well initially I was very much looking for sony T series but after posting a question on yahoo answers I changed my mind and went for powershot. See Sony T7 Vs Powershot A630. T series is sleak, but canon powershot is awesome.

Well we went to akiabara for this shopping and there we saw something which I would like to call sabjimandi of electronics. Literally people were selling their product as vegetables and again, for a gadget lover this place is like any thing. This electronics mall was named as yodobashi.

Well I was not having enough money at that time so I borrow from tirath some 15000 yen. You know what; I was so tired by borrowing in INR, its time to do some thing better. Obvious question which you are going to ask me is the cost. See the details below:

Ginza : Atta @ japan

Ginza : Atta @ japan

2 December, Saturday

So it was a Saturday and we have already planned to go to Sony building at Ginza. We includes, me (so obvious), tirath (next to obvious) and Mr Sri, he is a very senior IT pro from i-flex and staying in our hotel. He worked as our guide through out the day. As I m lucky through out my life, he is a nice guy too!

Here is a tip though, if you are looking for a quick and selective list of places to visit any where in the world then consult www.lonelyplanet.com awesome site for travelers. Only from this site I come to know about the heaven of gadget lovers. Sony building. 4 floors dedicated to sony products, including HDD player, blue ray player. From tiny laptop (see http://www.myicube.com/subnotebooks/sonyUX90.cfm ) to H U G E TVs. If you can hold and see T series camera so you can try some SLRs and movie cameras too…! One word possible for that place is AWESOME.

We attended an awesome blu-ray disc show from Sony itself with world's best audio-visual system. Btw, if you wanna know more about blu-ray discs see http://www.blu-ray.com/info/ in short, rishtey main to ye DVD ka dada lagta hai . 50 GB on a single disc… c'mon!

Well after being out (I may have spent some more 2-4 hours but…) from this heaven we were in to GINZA. To compare from very loose angle, its like our very own atta market. But, if you wanna have a feel, think about time square NY kinda place. Folks, pray that I can have some digi cam tomorrow, then u'll get some glimpse of the rich country. Think about a place where you can see the show rooms of mont blanc, yamaha, prada, mazda, bmw!!! Since its x'mas season so place were sooooo happening! And yeah, we covered some only 10% of ginza… has to went through all of that place…

And yeah, I got some good food, at good price! We had 2200 yen per head lunch, and guess the price of tandoori ate ki roti . In INR – 175! Welcome to the Tokyo…

And last but not the least, I cooked better chawal ;) and did iron too on clothes :D

Online radio links

Hey folks, being a perfect Indian, I just tried to find some online radio stations! Well here are few links. Mind it, raga.com is not a radio site.

welcome party

30 November, 2006: Gotta welcome party

Well on last Monday we went to akasuka office of nikko Citigroup where we were scheduled for a welcome party. Best part was this that all expenses were paid by our project manager Mr. Paul Griffin. Not by the company as you may have expected. So far I have observed that there are not much company-sponsored parties here unlike Indian companies, I wish this observation would be proved wrong. Well we went to an Indian hotel called jaipur where we had some good Indian buffet. Though we got all that nan again. I m fed up of this nan kinda thing...

Apart that I meat rest of my team mates who are used to sit. We do have multi continental team, including British, Irish, Chinese, Canadian and 4 Indians including tirath and me. It was a nice get together and we shared a lot between us except food ;) I noticed that there is a great ratio of Indians in nikko Citigroup. Even many of very high officials are Indians. Long live India and its IT...

On Wednesday we applied for alien card. Every foreigner who has to stay in japan for more than 90 days has to register himself with local ward office. Again, great cooperation instead of language issues. And though those 6 photos cost me some 600 yen but using that automatic photo machine was great...! It asked for all adjustment like aligning chin, find ur nose, align eyes n all tricks to get a good passport size photograph.

At the end of the day, our first created template was sent to client and he rejected it within 5 minutes ;) folks, I hv started work ;)

One night @ night club...

Koi yahan ahan nache nache...

Well Saturday night was awesome. We 5 guys, me, Tirath, Sapan sir, aman sir, yogesh wento to rapungi. This place has many many many night clubs for all budgets. We went to vanilla after having some 1/4 booze and we spent entire night out there... And yeah, there was some very good ratio of girls so... Well mail me personally for details because rest is censored here!!! And yeah, if it was fun for we 4 people but it was nothing less than a nightmare for poor fellow Tirath... he smoked a lot passively... I wonder if he'd join us for such party! Btw, this night club was having some good collection of music and you know what, one of the most rocking song was mundya tu bach ke rahi! We Indians were centre of attraction at that time...

We paid 1000 Y to get entry on which we were having 2 drinks free... and I gotta tequila shot :D entry fee wise its cheap n best but the place was damn crowded! Still, more crowd more fun is the formula at such places... hope u all are agreed ;)

And yeah, very next day (Sunday) when I went to collect my bag at magura (place where all shinsei bank guys of nucleus lives) I picked some wrong train and it cost me some 500 extra yen and 1 good tiring and full of tension hour :( wish will do better next time... sometimes trains here very confusing. I lost my route map and it map all the bad things happen...

another milestone in cooking...

BREAKING NEWS!

I cooked/baked/made, whatever term is suitable, rotiyan! Thanks to Pillsbury's goal goal rotiyan. We bought there from maya Indian store, near to shinsei bank, for some 500+ yens, and yeah, I guess we got our best meal so far in japan, though the thing which I made was hybrid of parathans and rotis but whatever, we got some wheat in our tummy!

Btw see this link for all shortcuts which can be used with in windows environment. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/126449

Observations so far

24 November, 2006: Some observations

We are towards completion of first week of this trip or stay. Since it was a usual office day and nothing much has happened so I though it's a good time to summarize few things.

  1. No horns! I have heard horn's volume only once so far! Hey noida… are you listening… Delhi people have better horn sense but noida is crap in this regard
  2. They do respect red lights, doesn't matter what's the time, what's the state. But I have seen few incidents of break-m-run incidents too.
  3. Pedestrian also have red lights ;) for your information, on few red lights in India they are also installed. But there is zebra line too, have we ever cared for them?
  4. People are used to stop at fair distance to stand at red lights, some 4-5 feet! No bumper to bumper drive.
  5. Japs are not talkative, at least I public places. In train, I have not seen many japs talking to each other. Some do, but most of them like to stand still.
  6. Most of the people in queue would be busy with their cell.
  7. INTERESTING ONE – I have not seen any young guy as cleaner any where, whether its office, train, hotel or where ever. Most of cleaner you'll find would be some 50+. I don't know the reason may be young guns are always succeed to get better job!
  8. No sign of poverty! Now I under stand that why that japane in Munna Bhai MBBS was taking pictures of poors ;)
  9. Walk! Japs walk fair! I have not seen any proper parking place at my office thoug it can accumulate some 10-15000 people very easily. I think there must be one but for sure, 80-90% people came only through metros. Regardless of their position.
  10. Skirts in girls are more common then jeans. And they do have good legs ;)
  11. Girls drink; I have seen 3 drunken girls so far, doing funny acts!
  12. Smoking ratios is high, unlike India; you will find smoking zone even in Mac'd!
